SUMMER CRUSH HYDRANGEA
The Summer Crush Hydrangea is perfect for small yards or to added in to your larger landscapes. It grows to just 18-36 inches ~ but the petite, raspberry red or neon purple blooms of the Summer Crush bigleaf hydrangea (hydrangea macrophylla ‘bailmacfive’) will surely add a vibrant pop of color to your garden.
If their beautiful colors are not enough to capture you, their repeat blooming will. Unlike other hydrangea macrophylla varieties, that bloom only once a year, these stunners will make a show in the late spring and then again later in the summer, blooming off of the current season’s growth.
WHERE TO PLANT
The Summer Crush Hydrangea is perfect for our Zone 7. It will need morning sun and afternoon shade, just like other mophead or French hydrangea varieties. It is best to monitor the spot you have in mind for a few days and pay attention to the sun patterns before choosing the best place for your a Summer Crush. If you don’t have a spot that will work in your garden, put it in a pot!
WHEN TO PRUNE
The Summer Crush will not need pruning very often, if at all. When it is in need, prune your hydrangea in the late summer after the blooms have faded.
HOW TO WATER
Watering your hydrangea is a breeze too! If the soil is dry, give them a good soak. A heavy watering once a week or so will make them happier instead of a light sprinkling daily. Keep soil moist but not wet.
CHANGE THE COLOR OF YOUR SUMMER CRUSH
As you may know, it is the pH levels that give hydrangeas their hue. You can easily manipulate their color by adding soil sulfur to encourage blue blooms and garden lime to encourage pink.
So the secret is out, this is our new SUMMER CRUSH! (as far as hydrangeas go anyway!)
